Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga

Nintendo-Alphadream

GBA

Body

-INTRO
The burden of the brand and the objective of a Mario/FF game hybrid didn't stop Alphadream from creating a great game.
-GRAPHICS(Tech)
Lots of 2d stuff, nothing special but good overall.
-GRAPHIC(Art)
Good reinvention of the Mario world, lots of ideas but a bit bland.
-AMBIENCE
Generally good but monotonous. Some great comebacks.
-CONTROLS
The control of the bros special abilities gets more and more complicated but all is cleverly mapped.

Mind

-DIFFICULTY CURVE
Generally easy but a couple of spikes await you at the end.
-LEVEL DESIGN
Typical RPG quest/subquest structure, items unlock new areas Zelda style. It's nearly always clear & simple.
-PUZZLE DESIGN
Simple, varied and engaging quests.
-FIGHTING SYSTEM
FF turn based battles are crossed with Mario's jumps hammers.
-MAGIC SYSTEM
N/A
-DEBUGGING
One sound bug always occurs when a certain action is performed. Faultless for the rest.

Soul

-ORIGINALITY & INNOVATION
Takes the most from Paper Mario but more games like this are needed.
-STORY
Takes all the Mario cliches and history and use it to its own advantage, paying all the necessary dues.
-ATMOSPHERE
A bit too ordinary but being a Mario game that's not too surprising.
-ARTISTIC VALUE
A Mario game worth of its name, action and RPG elements are mixed beautifully.
-PURE GAMING FUN
Obviously a great game.
